In response to the nationally evolving coronavirus situation the University has taken the difficult decision to further limit access to our campus buildings.
Note: This does not, however, affect our residential accommodation for students which remains open.
From 5pm today, (Monday 23 March) University buildings – across all five campuses – will close, with essential access permitted for only a small number of students and staff. In these cases, adjustments will be made to ensure strict social distancing measures are observed.
We recognise that this change represent a huge shift from everyday University life, however, it is essential to support national efforts to mitigate the impact of coronavirus and is of paramount importance in keeping our University community safe and well.
At all times, our overriding priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff and we will remain agile and responsive to the needs of all as we work together to support the UWS community in what are truly unprecedented circumstances.
It is important to stress that while campus buildings will not be accessible from 5pm on 23 March, the University itself will not be closed, but will be operating remotely. Student services will remain available, with colleagues continuing to deliver high levels of service right across our operations.
The University postponed face-to-face teaching from 16th. March, moving to a remote model of learning for students during the final two weeks of the current term.
Students are being contacted at programme level regarding detailed teaching, learning and assessment arrangements. The school appreciates that this may be an anxious time for members of our University community and we will continue to keep you fully up-to-date as the situation evolves.
All UWS activity and planning is informed by NHS public health as well as UK and Scottish Government advice and guidance. We have local structures in place to allow us to react appropriately to any developments. These include highly developed business continuity plans, covering all aspects of University business.
