This year the series kicks off with the first female CEO of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Dr Rebekah Widdowfield. Dr Widdowfield joined the RSE in September 2017 having come from the Scottish Government where her role as Depute Director saw Rebekah cover a variety of roles including rural and environmental science and analysis, higher education and housing. The RSE was created in 1783 by Royal Charter for ‘the advancement of learning and useful knowledge.’ Its first meetings were held in the library wing of the principal building of Edinburgh University. Its aim is to play a leading role in the development of a modern enlightenment that will enable Scotland to contribute significantly to addressing the global challenges facing humanity in the 21stCentury.

Why should I attend? Come and hear from someone at the top of their field who can share insights into their experience and learn how success can take different forms for different people – one size doesn’t fit all, and not all paths are direct.
Who can attend? Anyone: professional or student or otherwise. Plus it is open to those outwith UWS and it’s not just open to women, everyone is welcome. (Please note this event is not suitable for under-12s)

How much will it cost me? Nothing. Absolutely zero. Its free to attend though spaces are limited so if you change your mind after booking a ticket (that’s not a problem, we realise life can get in the way sometimes) please let us know so someone else can get the chance to take your spot.

The Inspiring Women Lecture Series
The UWS Inspiring Women Lecture Series was created to help provide a platform of inspiration and support for students and staff within the University and it is open to all. Since its inception the series has blossomed into one of the main events within the University calendar, attracting speakers with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, interests and experience. This year’s series is an exciting and innovative mix of speakers and events, continuing to encourage everyone to be inspired, to be bold, to be ambitious, to break boundaries and challenge thinking.
