For the first time, UWS will participate in Academic Writing Month – also known as #AcWriMo. This worldwide event is designed to encourage academic writers at any stage in their career to commit to a writing goal, then work towards it with support from colleagues who are engaged in the same process.
Facilitated by UWS Academy, UWS Academic Writing Month kicks off on November 1 but a special preparation event will be held next week on Wednesday, October 23.Held in Lanarkshire campus and videoconferenced to all other UWS campuses, the session on Preparing for Academic Writing Month will explore the #AcWriMo concept and help participants decide on their writing goal for November.
“Finding time and headspace to write can be one of the most challenging parts of academic writing. #AcWriMo helps writers to find a community of support where they can set aside some time to work towards their writing goals,” said Claire Mackie, co-organiser of UWS Academic Writing Month.
UWS Academy ran a series of one-hour writing sessions over the summer, called the #PowerHourOfWriting, in preparation for November’s Academic Writing Month.
“We were delighted with how many people joined in – not just face-to-face, but online. Writing with others, even remotely, really helps to encourage you to keep going and we’re going to be picking this up again in November,” said co-organiser Dr Stephanie Zihms.
UWS Academy will hold a series of events and write-ins during November to support academic writing throughout UWS. More information will be available on Twitter (@UWSAcademy) with the hashtag #UWSAcWriMo.
