Carers’ Academy wins #SDAs19 Award for Best Educational Initiative

At yesterday’s Scottish Dementia Awards 2019, held at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Glasgow, the winner of the Best Educational Initiative was the Carer’s Academy, a joint initiative between our School and one of our key strategic partners NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

The ‘Carer’s Academy’ aims to support family members and friends who care for loved ones with dementia, to develop enhanced levels of practical skills and knowledge in dementia care. Evaluation results have indicated that the ‘Carer’s Academy’ is of value to family carers not only on a practical level but also in facilitating peer support and establishing connections with local support services.

Accepting their #SDAs19 award, the @NHSaaa & @UniWestScotland team said:

“Thank you very much. We feel so privileged. We value carers and the academy provides an excellent an opportunity to bring people together to learn new skills.”
