Our school recently hosted a KG Hypnobirthing course on the Lanarkshire Campus. 26 student midwives attended the training, with their places being part funded by the UWS Supporting Student Midwives Scholarship Fund.
Alongside the students 5 of our fellow midwives from NHS Highlands attended, all of whom heaped praise on the campus and the course. The two day event enabled those attending to learn the background to hypnobirthing and to practice some of the techniques. The successful candidates will be able to put these new skills into play when working with women and families during clinical placements. The students were grateful for the support from the Midwifery Scholarship.
Moving forward we are hoping to be able to access this fund to continue to support student midwives in gaining additional knowledge and skills to support women and families, examples include aquanatal training and baby massage. We are continually seeking support to keep the Midwifery Scholarship going. Anyone with fundraising ideas is welcome to contact Midwifery Lecturer Sheona Brown at the Lanarkshire Campus to discuss.
Finally if you wish to donate towards this valuable fund, please go to www.uws.ac.uk/alumni/donate-online/ and select UWS Midwifery Scholarship Fund from the drop-down menu. Thanks!
