As they launch into their 125th year, the Scottish Baptist College (1894-2019/20) are pleased to be hosting a special lecture with Professor David Gushee, author of Kingdom Ethics at UWS Paisley Campus.
In this lecture, Professor Gushee intends to address such questions as: Why is Donald Trump’s relationship with truth presenting such a crisis for American culture and politics? How does our struggle for truth in public life relate to that of other peoples and places, such as in the old Soviet bloc and Nazi Germany? What are we learning about the nature of truth and its significance in public life? Might the concept of a covenant of truthful political speech be helpful as a way forward?
Dr. David P. Gushee is Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and Director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University. He is the elected Past-President of both the American Academy of Religion and Society of Christian Ethics. He is author and/or editor of 24 books and approximately 150 book chapters, journal articles, and reviews. His most notable books include Righteous Gentiles of the Holocaust, Kingdom Ethics, The Sacredness of Human Life, Changing Our Mind, and Moral Leadership for a Divided Age.
Professor Gushee is a devoted teacher-mentor and, over a busy 25-year career, has written hundreds of opinion pieces, given interviews to scores of media outlets, and has led several significant social-ethical activist efforts.
