UWS Lanarkshire Campus welcomed Cohort 10 of Scotland’s National Dementia Champions who joined the Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice team on Thursday 4th of April 2019 for Day 1 of their 8-month programme.
This group are the latest to join the Alzheimer Scotland’s, NHS Education for Scotland and the Scottish Social Service Council jointly supported project to provide a Dementia Champion in as many services as possible across the health and social care sector in Scotland. Dementia Champions are able to give advice and support to other staff and carers, help encourage and develop good practice, and improve access to a range of resources for patients and carers. There are over 950 “champions” already in place.
It’s worth noting that this programme was recently named by UniversitiesUK as one of the UK’s 100 best breakthrough projects for its significant impact on people’s everyday lives. If you would like more details about the programme you can find a more in-depth description on the Council of Deans Website.
