UWS Student Midwives Kiltwalk 2019.

Our UWS team are lacing up our walking shoes to help raise funds to support our fantastic student midwives.

Our students are dedicated, hardworking, passionate and highly supportive of each other and all the families in their care.

In addition to balancing their studies, clinical placements and home lives, they are responsible for identifying, negotiating and co-ordinating access to self-funded elective placement learning experiences at home and abroad. Recently two of our students travelled to a refugee camp in Greece to provide antenatal care, another student learned a new skill by learning sign language to allow her to communicate with expectant deaf mothers and their families. Increasing numbers of students are self-funding course literature, study days and equipment.

For many, this is financially challenging, and for some, an option that they cannot afford to realistically explore. However, we know their primary motivation is to develop sound, caring midwifery practice to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for mothers, babies, and families.
