On Wednesday 31st January two of our Part 1 BSc Adult Nursing students from Paisley campus, Lesley Williams (pictured) and Stephanie Clark, attended the visit of Shona Robison (MSP), the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport to Erskine Home. The primary reason for her visit was to hear about some of the innovative nursing roles and approaches have been adopted at Erskine, including employing an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and their own Dementia Nurse Consultant.
Whilst visiting, the Cabinet Secretary took the opportunity to announce an overall increase of 10.8% in the number of student nurses and midwives across Scotland. Good news for us of course.
Both students had been on clinical placement in Erskine for their first practice learning experience of their studies so it was great that they were able to attend on the day of such an important announcement. Erskine welcomes student nurses in its four care homes throughout their training. Around 30 students per year are supported and mentored by Erskine’s 80 registered nurses. So many thanks from all of us here at the School.
