The 3rd Forensic Lead Nurse Forum conference was held in Polmont on 27th October 2017. This year’s conference was chaired by Dr Helen Walker, a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing based and programme leader for the MSc in Forensic Mental Health at our Hamilton Campus.

The Keynote speakers at this years conference included: Mark Richards Director of Nursing and AHPs at the State Hospital in Carstairs; Jenny Young,  a Reserach Fellow at the University of Stirling and Patricia Cawthorne Consultant Nurse for the Forensic Network.

A variety of clinicians from across Scotland presented ata series of workshops at this year’s conference. This conference was set up originally to share good practice, research initiatives and audits undertaken by forensic nurses with the intention of celebrating forensic nursing and promoting its evidence base. This year there was a drive to encourage first time presenters in order to generate and develop early career researchers working in this field of clinical practice. Maria Bain, Lead Nurse from Highlands won the first time presenter prize.

In future our mental health teaching team plan to use this conference as a platform to showcase the research projects being undertaken by the School’s MSc Forensic Mental Health students.
