Dumfries and Galloway Pupils to get an Insight into Nursing at our Dumfries Campus

The School of Nursing Midwifery and Health is hosting its annual Dumfries Campus Nursing Event on Thursday 8 December 2016. The event, which runs from 9am-3.30pm, will see over 130 S5/S6 pupils spanning all of Dumfries and Galloway’s secondary schools, who are interested in pursuing a career in health and nursing, in attendance.

The event will provide pupils with an insight into university life and will include a full day of workshops covering a range of health and nursing disciplines. These include ‘The Role of a Nurse’, ‘Preparing for a Career in Nursing’, ‘Trauma and Basic Life Support’, ‘Wound Care’, ‘Health Improvement’, and ‘Dementia Care’. They will also benefit from the skills and knowledge of local health and nursing professionals who will be present at the event.

Participation in this event provides a useful addition to pupils’ CV and their UCAS application forms. Furthermore, it also gives them the chance to  meet with a range of professionals, academic staff and students within the nursing and health sector.  Pupils will leave this event with a better understanding of what it takes to be a nurse currently

Jessica Dunn, Recruitment Team Leader at UWS, said:

“We are delighted to be hosting this event at our Dumfries Campus. It will give pupils from across the region, who are interested in pursuing a career in health and nursing, with the ideal opportunity to find out more about their options once they leave school.”

On the day all UWS/NHS staff will be participating in the annual Cash for Kids Christmas Jumper Day and pupils and teachers have also been encouraged to participate in raising funds for this important cause. So remember to wear your jumper and bring a £1 .
