As part of celebrations marking 10 years of My Home Life in the UK, our School, which delivers the My Home Life programme in Scotland, is inviting care homes and other care settings across the county to host a ‘Tea Party’ on Thursday 29 September 2016.
The My Home Life project, which is a UK-wide initiative and was launched in 2006 by the National Care Homes Research and Development Forum, aims to promote quality of life for those living, dying, visiting and working in care homes through relationship-centred and evidence based practice.
My Home Life sets out to support managers to create and sustain a positive relationship-centred culture in their care homes where quality of life of residents, relatives and staff can flourish. UWS, in partnership with Scottish Care, is currently delivering My Home Life to over 100 care homes across Scotland.
Over 40 care homes and other care settings across Scotland have signed up to take part in the ‘Tea Party’ event, which is the ideal way of celebrating everything that is great about this healthcare sector.
David Innes of the University’s School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery, who is Project Manager of My Home Life Scotland, said:
“We are delighted to be celebrating 10 years of My Home Life and the response we have already had to our ‘Tea Party’ initiative has been fantastic. This initiative will see carers and residents come together to enjoy a cuppa and chat to celebrate the care home sector.”
Since 2012, My Home Life Scotland has engaged with over 300 care home managers and other care professionals from across 15 local authorities in its Leadership Support and Community Development (LSCD) Programme.
Feedback from the participants of the programmes has been very positive and suggests that the managers My Home Life Scotland work with are supporting effective and sustainable changes within the sector. There is evidence to show that the managers have begun to test out various innovative approaches as they begin to explore what is working well in their home and what is needed to enhance the lives of staff, residents and relatives in their care settings.
