On 26th April 2016 the School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery at Ayr Campus were visited by 14 of the 12th Ayr Girl Guides and 3 of their leaders. The girls are from a local guide company who undertake a variety of activities throughout the year and had asked if they could come in and see the environment where student nurses learn about nursing care. The visit was facilitated by Celia Quinlivan, Linda Bell, Stewart Kerr and Alison Toner.
The guides were able to observe and participate in 3 workshops during their visit. In the Domus the guides had the opportunity try out the age simulation kit, dementia friendly resources and the vision simulation goggles. They were able to discuss some of their own experiences of family members with dementia.
They were also able to feel sim man’s pulse and check his blood pressure. Some of the guides had recently completed their first aid badge and were able to demonstrate C.P.R. on sim man. Go Girls!!
They also participated in handwashing using glitter gel and the UV box to illustrate the importance of handwashing.
