Dean of School Undertakes HealthcareUK Visit to Hong Kong

Karen Wilson, Dean of School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery and Dr Tim Duffy, Assistant Dean (International), recently visited Hong Kong on the invitation of HealthcareUK and with support from the British Consulate General.

A key aim of this visit was to position UWS so that it is best placed to assist in the training provision of healthcare personnel in China. China aims to train an additional 5 million nurses and 8 million healthcare assistants. The Chinese government are looking to the UK model of training of healthcare staff.

While in Hong Kong, Karen and Tim met with key health and educational organisations as well as the Dean of the School of Nursing and key colleagues from the University of South China.

Future developments will focus on opportunities for transnational education, student and staff mobility and research in health-related areas including Care of Older People; Midwifery; Health Improvement Science and Mental Health.

Dr Rong Wang (pictured on the right of the photograph) has been awarded a Government Scholarship and will visit UWS for a year to collaborate on research and teaching initiatives.
